De Teisterband

The Teisterband  is an amateur wind orchestra from Heemstede (The Netherlands). There are about 50 men in the orchestra - all over 40 - playing instruments such as the clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, tuba, trombone, sousaphone and percussion. The band gives many performances in and around Haarlem and Heemstede throughout the year. The repertoire of the orchestra covers a broad range of musical styles: marches, folk, dixieland, latin and jazz.

The conductor, Bert Steinmann, is a professional musician. He plays the English horn and oboe in the Holland Symfonia Orchestra (the Dutch Ballet and Symphony Orchestra). When he is in a good mood he joins the Teisterband on the saxophone.

One long weekend every summer the Teisterband goes on tour in Europe. The band played in St. Vito (Italy), Bregenz (Austria), La Rochelle (France), Aubel (Belgium), Luxemburg, Liechtenstein and Traben Trarbach (Mosel area, Germany). In 2008 the band was in Prague (Czech Republic) and gave a performance on the city’s central marketplace, Staroměstské náměstí, close to the Astronomical Clock.

In the summer of 2009 the band went on tour in Canterbury UK. There were four concerts on the pijl play-bill.

Trier, the oldest city of Germany, was visited in July 2010.
